Stephanie Lowe, wife of Phillip Schofield, a veteran British TV presenter, has reacted to her husband’s recent disclosure that he is gay.
Speaking with The Sun UK on Sunday, Low, 55, admitted their 27-year-old union has endured tough times. The lovebirds tied the knot in 1993.
“We have had to face the most emotionally painful time in our 27 years of marriage,” she said.
Her comment comes about the same time when Schofield revealed he knew he was gay when he married Lowe. The 57-year-old also explained he had to suppress his sexuality because he was “naive” at the time.
“I am not saying I didn’t know,” the TV presenter told the news outlet. “Whatever was ‘there’ I thought, ‘OK, whatever this is, you stay back because I am happy’.”
Schofield revealed his joy when he newly got married fizzled thoughts about it. He, however, admitted struggling to cope afterwards, adding he even took to therapy after suicidal thoughts started creeping in.
“If you ask anyone who is gay, they know — there is no confusion. I admit I was perhaps a bit naïve,” he said.
“But when we got married it was a joyous time and it wasn’t a consideration in my head. I was so, so happy when we had the girls, and then bringing them up.”
Schofield made the headlines hen he declared he was gay in a lengthy social media post on Friday — a revelation he further confirmed on ‘This Morning,‘ a show he co-hosts with Holly Willoughby.
