Babajide Sanwo-Olu has gifted Aminat Yusuf, the Lagos State University (LASU) best graduating student with 5.0 CGPA, the sum of N10 million.

The governor announced this during the 26th convocation and 40th anniversary of the institution held on Thursday.

Sanwo-Olu said he is giving Yusuf N5 million personally while the remaining N5 million is from the state government.

In a Twitter post, the governor said the gesture is aimed at celebrating the “outstanding achievement” of the student.

“Congratulations to Aminat Yusuf Imoitsemeh for graduating with a perfect CGPA of 5.0 in Law. I am pleased to announce a personal donation of N5m and an additional N5m from the state government to recognize her outstanding achievement. Well done Aminat,” he wrote.

“I extend my congratulations to all the graduating students. You have worked hard to achieve academic excellence, and I urge you to continue making positive contributions to our nation’s development.”

The governor also commended the institution for its commitment to “academic excellence”.

“Your commitment to excellence and the academic achievements of students are truly commendable. I applaud the institution’s accomplishments, including being designated as an ‘Africa Center of Excellence for STEM Education’ by the World Bank. LASU continues to make us proud,” he added.

Yusuf, a law student, is the institution’s first undergraduate to achieve a CGPA of 5.0 in 40 years.

The governor had earlier hailed the student for her dedication and hard work.
