Michael Olayinka, the Nigerian singer better known as Ruger, says he has denounced loyalty to “godfather,” adding that 2024 is all about himself.

The singer confirmed his departure from Jonzing World, a label owned by D’Prince, in an Instagram post.

“Thank you Jonzing world and D’Prince for believing in me and taking me this far. It is sad that I have to leave but God knows best. It is time for @blownboyent,” he wrote.

He also recently established his own label called ‘Blown Boy Entertainment’.

In a recently released freestyle titled ‘Blownboy’, Ruger denounced godfatherism, stating that this year is solely about him.

“I denounce every loyalty to some godfather, this year I’m about me,” he sings.

“And I break every chain everywhere they don conspire against me dem go see. This year, we no gree for anybody.”

Olayinka was first discovered by D’Prince who gave him the name Ruger.

In January 2021, D’Prince announced the signing of Ruger to Jonzing World and Song Music Entertainment UK, in a joint venture with Columbia Records.

The singer immediately released his first extended play (EP) titled ‘Pandemic’. He also unveiled another the following year called ‘Second Wave’.

Ruger released ‘Ru The World’, his debut studio album in September 2023.

He has also received several awards and recognitions for his talent.

In 2021, he won the AFRIMA ‘Best Newcomer Award’ and then the ‘Best New Artiste’ category at the 2023 Soundcity MVP Awards.
