This year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) kicked off with a bang as A-listers, fashion moguls, and cultural icons strutted their stuff on the red carpet.

The award ceremony which was originally scheduled to hold on September 10 was shifted to Wednesday due to the US presidential debate.

It was held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York and was hosted by Megan Thee Stallion, the US rapper.

As usual, celebrities used the event to experiment and go big on their outfit choices with many even serving redesigned looks from the 1990s.

Some of the big names in attendance include: Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Camilla Cabello, Lil Nas X, Addison Rae, Tinashe, Halle Bailey, Tyla and Katy Perry.

Swift was the biggest winner of the night, claiming seven categories and solidifying her position as the most decorated solo artiste in VMA history.

The ‘Bad Blood’ hitmaker clinched seven categories including ‘Video of the Year’, ‘Artiste of the Year’, ‘Best Collaboration’, ‘Best Pop Song’, ‘Best Direction’, ‘Best Editing’ and ‘Song of the Summer’.

Nigerian artistes like Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr, Lojay, Pheelz and Davido were all nominated but they lost out in the Afrobeats category to South Africa’s Tyla.
