Pete Edochie has sparked arguments on the Nigerian Twitter-sphere over the advice he gave to married women on how to handle cheating husbands.
On Monday, a video had surfaced on social media and gone viral wherein the 74-year-old actor asked wives to stuff packets of condom into the bag of their husbands whom they suspect is leaving home to have an affair.
“If you think that your husband leaves the house and says that he is going on tour and he is going to have an affair outside, put a packet of condom into his bag; tell him that you have packed his bag for him. When he sees it, psychologically, he is going to think ‘this woman has my interest at heart.’ If it is his intention to stray, he will put himself together,” he had said.
His advice, however, didn’t go down well with a number of Twitter users, some of whom took to the microblogging platform to air their mixed reactions on the topic.
“Pete Edochie is 74. Let’s show the man some Grace. Some of his ideas are bound to be old-fashioned. If you never insult your parents/grandparents who may say the same thing, why are you crying about Pete Edochie? Your outrage won’t change the man. You are wasting your tears,” a user wrote.
Another user wrote: “Pete Edochie is right. I’m not leaving my home because of another woman. I will only divorce him if he disrespectfully brings her into the home. I said it severally. Even condom, I will supply him with it because I want to protect myself.”
In February 2020, Edochie had set Twitter on fire after he lambasted Nigerian men who abide by the western practice of kneeling while proposing to women.

Pete Edochie will keep saying whatever he likes. At least he's not pretending to be progressive. That's how he genuinely thinks and he won't change for anybody. Don't waste your outrage.

I don’t know why you guys are trying to drag Pete Edochie. What exactly do you expect from a 70+ man who came from an entirely different generation? This man is from an era where patriarchy reigned and you expect him to preach feminism? You should be worried if that came from me.

I think they need to stop interviewing Pete Edochie. Especially on social issues.
The man is 74. His generation is entirely different from ours on social issues and gender matters.
Continuing to interview him is setting a trap to ridicule him and ruin his memory for all of us.

Pete Edochie will not kill me. 😂😂
My Oga say if you put condom in a man's bag, reverse psychology will stop him from cheating.
Bold of him to assume awon omo Oduduwa will even help you use your condom. 😂😂

Pete Edochie is right
I'm not leaving my "home" because of another woman. Lol
I will only divorce my husband if he disrespectfully brings her home.
I've said this severally, no way!
Even the condom, I will supply him with it cuz I need to protect myself indirectly too— O L A (@Olakhisha) March 15, 2021
Every 6 weeks you guys dig up interviews of Chief Pete talking about marriages then start screaming "patriachy", as if you expected something different.
Idg it, is a 74 year old African traditional man supposed to be a progressive feminist???
Oh chim.

Pete Edochie is a 70+ Igbo man. Hold this information with your left hand before you go ahead and rile yourself up for no good reason

You're 'dragging' Pete Edochie, but your mom's the second wife and your dad probably shares the same opinion as him… pic.twitter.com/9gaupnfIfZ

Pete edochie is an old man yes, but his words make you reflect on the nonsense a lot of Nigerian women endured and still endure given how he's still dishing out company secrets of the patriarchy to young men and continuing the cycle.
So people have a right to be upset.

That’s what the condoms are for. The condom is supposed to prevent you ending up with HIV and STDs. And in some instances, doing that might actually turn such situations around. A cheating man whose wife hands him a condom on his way out might actually pause and question things.

If an elder gives you an advice, you can either take it or discard it. You must not use it, but you just need to listen deeply and understand that experience they're pushing out to you. Let's not slander Pete Edochie for his OPINION. You can use the advice, or you don't use it.

On Pete Edochie's prattle, it's very wrong to think it's the sole responsibility of women to make relationship/marriage work.

Now I see young men celebrating everything that proves that they have fragile ego and should be pampered when they aren’t …..
Putting condom robs me the wrong way bcus I’m endorsing your philandering ways.
Then to see men jump bcus Pete said so
