Edochie, in an interview with Chude Jideonwo, the media personality, said he doesn’t see the need to do so.

The veteran film star, who was speaking about Yul Edochie’s case, said his own wife already bore him five sons.

Edochie clarified that he doesn’t condemn polygamy because people have their reasons for practising it.

He added that he has been married for 53 years and has never been accused of domestic violence.

“For me, I mean I have a wife who has given me five sons. What am I going to look for a second wife for? No, it’s not necessary,” he said.

“I will not condemn polygamy, no, because people have their reasons for what they do, right? I have lived with this woman for the past 53 years.

“Nobody has ever come in here to say ‘Oh please Pete stop beating her, you will kill her’.

“No, why? I never saw my father beat my mother so I cannot say I learned from my father how to beat mama.”

Edochie stated that any man who is violent toward a woman does not deserve to be called a man.

“I love women a great deal and I respect them. If I see any young man beating up a woman, oh my God. You know, I just think you don’t qualify to be a man,” the actor added.

In April 2022, Yul, one of Pete Edochie’s sons, unveiled Judy Austin, an actress, as his second wife.

He also announced their first child together, to the displeasure of May, his now-estranged first wife.

May recently filed for divorce from Yul Edochie and demanded N100 million in damages.
