Some Nigerians have taken to social media to register their annoyance following the dismissal of Busola Dakolo’s case against Biodun Fatoyinbo, senior pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), by a high court in Abuja.
Oathman Musa, the presiding judge, dismissed the case describing it as a “purely sentimental abuse of judicial process.”
He also ordered Busola to pay the sum of N1 million which could have been more because she wasted the court’s time.
The court verdict did not go down too well with quite a number of Nigerians on social media platforms especially Twitter, where they are “crying foul play”.
“So the court has thrown Busola Dakolo’s case out the window and still fined her 1m for wasting the court’s time. Wow! I just want to know how this country will be better. The judicial system is in shambles. Nothing is working in this country. It’s a shame,” a Twitter user said.
“On Busola Dakolo and Biodun Fatoyinbo. When the people cannot trust the nation’s most fundamental institutions, an indefinite invitation to anarchy is on the table. This growing judicial erosion of public trust will spark a spike in how people take the law into their own hands,” Fisayo Soyombo wrote.
Here is what some Nigerians had to say:

No matter the cause, one of the effects of this judgment in Busola Dakolo's case is that a lot of women who are the victims of sexual assault will think "What if I lose & I'm asked to pay a fine?" before they determine not to speak up.
And that's just sad

How I wish this Busola Dakolo's story will not discourage victims of rape from coming out and reporting the perpetrators.
😔

Busola Dakolo, i am so sorry.
sorry that the church failed you, sorry that the system failed you, sorry that you are being punished for speaking your truth.i am sorry.

I actually knew Busola Dakolo was going to lose the court case against Biodun Fatoyinbo for lack of evidence. The court isn't about emotions and sentiments. It's alright about facts and proven evidneces.

This Busola Dakolo’s news is the saddest thing I’ve read today.
Now more than ever women will be forced to keep quiet if they’ve been abused so they don’t end up going through public ridicule and paying fine.
The whole system is sickening.

Busola Dakolo loses her case, court orders her to pay Fatoyinbo 1 million naira in Damages.
Nigerian law can be amusing sometimes.
Sadly the rape apologists will have a fun day over this judgement.— {/esq} (@RickAnji) November 14, 2019
*No rapist deserves to go unpunished
*No one deserves to be punished without proper Evidence
*As a Lawyer, you are to protect the interest of your Client
As a Judge, you are to give Verdict based on acquired evidences
Busola Dakolo's Case is a controversial one

Busola Dakolo's case againt popular Abuja-based pastor of COZA, Biodun Fatoyinbo was dismissed for lack of merit and evidence, with Busola now ordered to pay N1M in damages in Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo. #Fatoyinbo#Coza pic.twitter.com/33qOflPzz5

Moral Lesson of the Busola Dakolo, Coza, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo Saga;
Always always get a tenable & undisputable evidence before u come ranting on Social media,we all know these allegations might be true, but what can the righteous do? These days the supposed victim get punished pic.twitter.com/hkZc0vxMMd— Adebayo S. (@baydorz) November 14, 2019
Somebody out there has evidence against Fatoyinbo. Sooner or later it will come out. Doesn’t have to be from Busola Dakolo. She scattered the matter and that’s already significant work. Thanks for the sacrifice.

Busola Dakolo’s lawyer should be flogged at the market square but we will make this the other way round about the ‘justice system’
— Ayobami (@dondekojo) November 14, 2019
In as much as I sympathised with Busola Dakolo and believe her story, the fact the court threw away her case based on lack of evidence and awarded 1m damages to Fatoyibo makes it clearer that the law isn't about the truth but facts.
Next time, we would present better cases. pic.twitter.com/v6ciGBhVBa

so busola dakolo’s rape allegations against pastor biodun fatoyinbo have been termed a lie by the court and she has been fined N1,000,000 to be paid as damages to the pastor. i’m in awe of the nigerian judiciary. this occurrence gives us an assurance of true justice. smh.
— #OneNigerianAtATime (@Stee_vane) November 14, 2019
Biodun Fatoyinbo never raped Busola Dakolo.
I am one million percent sure of it!All the outrage on Twitter should be channeled towards false accusers like that whore called Busola Dakolo who keeps making it hard for genuine rape victims to convince society of their story.

Court throws out Busola Dakolo's suit against Fatoyinbo, & "awarded costs of N1,000,000 against Busola Dakolo and held that the fine should have been 10 times more because the court’s… https://t.co/AAdX3orOvj
