Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian footballer, says Rema is “one of the biggest artistes in the world”.
The Napoli center-forward spoke about the global rise of Afrobeats in a recent interview with CBS Sports Golazo.
The 25-year-old footballer referred to Rema as “one of the biggest artistes in the world now” who he said is on the “same level as Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido”.
He added that Omah Lay, Seyi Vibez, and Asake are “also on the rise” — in terms of global popularity.
“Aside from Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, we have Asake, Seyi Vibez, and Omah Lay. We also have Rema, Rema is one of the biggest artistes in the world right now,” he said.
“Rema is there but these guys that I have called Omah Lay, Seyi Vibez and Asake are also on the rise. In a few years, I think they are really going to burst out just like Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy. So for me it is really good to be coming from Nigeria.”
Osimhen led Napoli to the Serie A title last season — the club’s first in 33 years.
The Super Eagles striker also scored 25 league goals to become the league’s highest goal scorer, setting the record as the first African footballer to achieve the feat.
He recently bagged the African player of the year at the CAF Awards.
Rema, on the other hand, has been enjoying a massive reception from music lovers since he came into the limelight.
He signed a record deal with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records, in 2019.
The singer released his eponymous debut EP ‘Rema’ in 2019.
‘Calm Down’, his hit single, has continued to rake in massive numbers on streaming services, break records, and earn awards.
