‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’, a movie by Funke Akindele, a Nollywood actress, is set to become Nigeria’s first film to hit the cinemas in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Akindele, who took to her social media page on Monday to break the news, said the movie would be released on January 21 in selected Novos Cinemas.
“Exciting news for UAE ‘Omo Ghetto’ fans! The No. 1 film and box office record breaker in Nigeria — ‘Omo Ghetto (The Saga)’ — is set to break yet another record as the first ever cinema release of a Nigerian film in the United Arab Emirates,” she wrote on Instagram.
“Omo Ghetto (The Saga) is scheduled for release from the 21st of January, 2021 in selected Novo Cinemas in the UAE. Stay tuned for more updates!”
The project, which made its debut in Nigerian cinemas on December 25, is a sequel to ‘Omo Ghetto’, a 2010 Nigerian drama film, directed by Abiodun Olarenwaju.
It follows Lefty (Funke Akindele) and her friends, Nikky (Bimbo Thomas), Busty (Eniola Badmus) and Chummy Choko (Chioma Akpotha) in Askamaya Ghetto.
The film, which has continued to pull the strings since its release, is also Akindele’s first directorial collaboration with JJC Skillz, her husband.
The ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ star had earlier narrated how armed robbers broke into a Lagos hotel she shared with her colleagues while filming the original version of the movie.
