Christopher Wallace, renowned American rapper, known as the Notorious B.I.G, has been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, more than twenty-two years after his death.
The American rapper, who died on March 9, 1997 was nominated for his 1994 album, ‘Ready to Die’.
Other artistes nominated for the honour include: Whitney Houston, Brothers, Judas Priest, Kraftwerk, MC5, Motörhead, Nine Inch Nails, Pat Benatar, Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan, Soundgarden, T-Rex, Thin Lizzy and Todd Rundgren.
The award ceremony is slated for May, 2020.
His nomination adds to the long list of previous stars to have been inducted.
Tupac was the last rapper inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, after N.W.A’s induction in 2016.
Other past winners of the prestigious title also include Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run-D.M.C., the Beastie Boys, Public and Enemy.
Wallace, who was born on May 21, 1972 is adjudged by some as the greatest rappers of all time.
He is widely applauded for his strong-worded songs and storytelling abilities, which address society issues such as crime and hardship.
The Rock and Hall of Fame, a museum in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, is reputed for honouring works of rock music and the artists, producers, engineers and other notable figures who have advanced its course.
It was established on April 20, 1983 by Ahmet Ertegun, founder and chairman of Atlantic Records.
To be eligible for nomination for the honor, The Rock and Hall of Fame demands artists must have released an album before 1994. This year’s award will be decided by votes from the fans.
The fans are expected to vote simply by typing their favourite artist’s name in Google along with the inscription ‘vote’.
The voting, which started on Monday, is expected to end by January, next year.
