Trevor Noah, a South African comedian, has provoked the ire of Nigerians on Twitter following a joke he made on Audu Ogbeh, the minister of agriculture.

The minister had last week when he appeared before the senate committee on agriculture in Abuja, said some Nigerians usually order for pizza from London, UK.

“Do you know, sir, that there are Nigerians who use their cellphones to import pizza from London; they buy in London and bring it on British Airways in the morning to pick up at the airport. It is a very annoying situation and we have to move a lot faster in cutting down some of these things,” Ogbeh had said.

In his jocular nature, the stand-up comedian and host of ‘The Daily Show’ jumped on the comment in a video he shared on his show and made fun of it which actually got everyone laughing.

In the now-trending video, Noah questioned the rationale of Nigerians ordering pizza from London, brandishing it a waste of time and money.

He further mimicked a Nigerian accent to embellish his joke and this did not go down well with fans and critics on Twitter Nigeria.

While a segment of users registered their annoyance, others applauded his creativity and sense of humour in picking out issues of dependence on imported foods in Africa’s most populous nation.

“Trevor Noah really needs to stop trying the ‘Nigerian accent’. It’s awful. There’s also no such thing.” a Twitter user said.

“This is funny, you guys should not attack Trevor Noah, you should deal with the internal problem.” said another user.
