Mercy Aigbe has called on Seyi, son of President Bola Tinubu, to speak with his father to “do something” about the current economic hardship in the country.
The actress made the call after Seyi urged Nigerians to be patient with his father and endure the current economic hardship.
In a social media post on Monday, Seyi said Nigerians need to endure the trying times for “a better future”.
His remark however attracted a wave of backlash across social media platforms.
While some users tackled him over his “opulence lifestyle”, others wondered if “patience” in Tinubu’s government would pay their bills or feed them.
Joining the fray, Aigbe lamented that the present situation of the country is “terrible”, adding that citizens are “hungry and dying”.
The film star also appealed to Seyi to speak with his father to “reduce the struggles of the masses”.
“People are hungry, people are dying, people are going out of their minds. The present situation of the country is terrible,” she wrote via her Instagram page.
“The government should please, please we are begging, they should do something about this economic hardship.
“It’s unbearable @officialasiwaju bat. @seyitinubu please beg your father for us. O to ge.”
The development comes at about the same time when many Nigerians staged protests against the economic hardship in the country.
Residents in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, took to the streets on Monday to decry the state of the country.
The labour union also announced a nationwide protest on February 27 and 28 over the rising cost of living.
Food prices have been on the rise since Tinubu pronounced an end to the petrol subsidy regime on May 29, 2023.
There have also been reports about an imminent increase in the cost of fuel from N585.
