Odumodublvck, the Nigerian rapper, has tackled critics of Burna Boy, adding that nobody “paved the way” for the Afrobeats singer in the music industry.
Davido, in a recent interview, had referred to himself and Wizkid as “pioneers in popularising Afrobeats”.
The singer added that he was excited to see “new cats” such as Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Mayorkun, and Asake now excelling in the industry.
Davido’s comment had ruffled the feathers of Burna Boy’s fans on social media; some of whom vented their annoyance at the ‘Assurance’ hitmaker.
Joining the fray, Odumodublvck argued that “nobody likes Burna Boy” in the industry.
The rapper also wondered why some Nigerians “like to take the glory of another person’s success”.
“My country people, I woke up in the morning and I saw people talking about why Burna Boy said he is the best and that nobody paved way for him,” he said.
“Nobody paved the way for Burna Boy. It is God, Jesus Christ who paved the way for him. None of you paved the way for Burna Boy.
“In this industry, nobody likes Burna Boy because that guy has the guts and he is not licking anybody’s ass.
“That guy is coming from the trenches. That guy has been through shit. So none of you should come and be like you helped this guy. That guy helped himself, God helped that guy.
“If today someone helps another person, it is because God possessed you to help that person. But in Nigeria, people like to take the glory of another person’s success.
“If that guy says he is the best, then he is.”
In 2020, Burna Boy claimed he brought the Afrobeats genre to the mainstream where it is currently enjoying western recognition.
“FACT! I always knew I was and I am THE BEST. Everyone you think is the best KNOWS I’m BEST since Fela Kuti,” he had said.
