Shuga, a long-running drama series on MTV Base, is set to return for its sixth and seven seasons.

The series focuses on the lives of young African millennials, as they navigate their way through their adolescent years.

In its sixth season, Shuga’s plot will revolve around HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health among teenagers and young women.

Shuga season 6 will feature the usual suspects, Sharon Ezeamaka, Timini Egbuson and Jemima Osunde.

Joining the MTV Shuga team for season 6 is Chris Ihidero, an award-winning writer/filmmaker.

Speaking on the return of MTV Shuga, Georgia Arnold, executive director of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, said: “We are thrilled to be bringing MTV Shuga back to Nigeria.

“Nigeria is Africa’s most populous nation with a vibrant, colorful and energetic urban youth culture and we can’t wait to share the exciting new storylines and important messaging on family planning and sexual health that we’re touching on this season.

“We’ll explore more issues that affect young people and highlight the reality faced by many adolescents in their everyday lives, as well as the choices they can make to empower themselves.”

Shuga season 6 will premiere on MTV Base and partner TV stations in early 2018.

The seventh season will begin airing almost immediately after the conclusion of season 6.
