Abdullahi Musa Huseini, a Nigerian makeup artist, has been sentenced to six months in prison for abusing the naira notes.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the aesthetician, popularity known as Amuscap abused the naira notes during his wedding celebration in Kano last December.

Huseini abused the naira by spraying the sum of N100,000 during the celebration.

He was sentenced by S.M Shuaibu, a justice of federal high court in Kano, after pleading guilty to a one-count charge bordering on abuse and mutilation of the naira.

The charge against Huseini reads: “That you, Abdullahi Musa Huseini, on the 6th day of December 2024, at Ali Jita Event Centre, Kano, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, whilst dancing during a social event, tampered with the sum of N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) in 1000 notes denomination issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying in the said occasion and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.”

Shuaibu sentenced the makeup artist to six months imprisonment without an option of fine.

The case comes a few weeks after Murja Ibrahim Kunya, a TikToker, was rearrested in Kano for allegedly abusing the naira.

In 2024, the EFCC intensified its crackdown on naira abuse, citing section 21 of the CBN Act.

Bobrisky, the social media celebrity, was arrested by the commission in Lagos on April 4, 2024, for defacing naira notes. The crossdresser was jailed on a six-count charge.

Socialite Cubana Chief Priest was also arraigned for a three-count charge over alleged naira abuse.
