David Oyedepo, the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, has warned his congregation against accepting same-sex marriages in their families.

The clergyman was seen in a now-viral video speaking against same-sex marriages during a sermon at his church headquarters on Sunday.

Oyedepo told his members to reject anyone in their families getting married to someone of the same gender.

“Before your son will bring another son as his wife, wake up, better wake up. When he arrives saying I want to introduce my spouse to you, you’ll say where is she? No! Never! You’ll never suffer that assault in your life,” he said.

In Nigeria, same-sex marriages are considered illegal and the offense is punishable by up to 14 years of prison in the conventional court system.

The law was passed in 2013 as the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.
