The federal ministry of art, culture, tourism and the creative economy has officially unveiled plans for the first-ever Nigerian Foods and Culture Festival.
Minister Hannatu Musa Musawa announced the festival at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, declaring that the two-day festival is scheduled for December 16 and 17, 2025 at the Cricket Pitch of Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos.
The festival is conceived as a grand national showcase, designed to spotlight Nigeria’s profound cultural heritage, immense culinary diversity, and dynamic creative energy.
Musawa positioned the event as a direct reflection of the federal government’s strategy to harness the sectors of art, culture, and tourism as powerful engines for economic growth, job creation, and enhanced national unity.
“Detty December is a popular cultural phenomenon that started in Lagos, and the federal government will provide all necessary support to ensure a safe, beautiful and culturally enriching experience for the international community and lovers of culture and creativity,” she said.
“This will be a bigger Detty December, and we envision a future where the Nigerian Foods and Culture Festival becomes a premier cultural event, attracting visitors from around the world to experience the richness of Nigerian culture.”
Jude Irabor Uwagbai, managing director and chief operating officer of Irabor Creative Minds, also assured guests of a safe atmosphere throughout the two-day event.
“We are working with Lagos State’s Lion Building Police to ensure the safety of all participants. We are inviting the world to Lagos, Nigeria to come and experience our culture,” he said.
