The Kano government has offered automatic employment to the best-graduating students from the Nafisatu College of Nursing Sciences in Madobi.
Abba Kabir Yusuf, the state governor, approved the employment on Saturday during the presentation of licenses to the 35 graduates by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
Yusuf, represented by Aminu Abdulsalam, his deputy, disclosed that the automatic employment is for the best-graduating students out of the 35, adding that they will get jobs in the state health facilities.
He commended the students for their “sterling performance” during their academic programmes.
The governor also appreciated Rabiu Kwankwaso, his predecessor, for “investing hugely in education”.
“We are happy to be associated with our mentor. This is not the only college he has built in his capacity as a Nigerian citizen,” he said.
“There are other several colleges built by Engr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso. That is why he has added to his title, Mr. Edication; and you cannot take it away from him.
“We are proud to be associated with you (Kwankwaso). We are proud to be associated with the Keankwassiyya ideology. We pray that God will keep giving you the ability to keep showing us the way. And we thank you for adding value to our endeavors.”
In his remark, Kwankwaso, the founder of the college, who was also in attendance at the ceremony, said: “I thank God for the opportunity to perform this historic event. I congratulate all the students who have collected their practicing licenses today”.
“I commend the provost and members of the staff of the institution for maintaining the standard. I encourage the students, staff, and management of the College to keep moving. I am happy to see the graduates as qualified practicing nurses graduating from this College here in the Kwankwaso community,” he added.
Also speaking, Halima Yunusa, the school provost, appealed to the government, NGOs, and the public to grant scholarships to students who are less privileged but brilliant and show a willingness to study in college.
