Thomas Markle, the father of Meghan Markle, says he felt jealous on his daughter’s wedding day when Prince Charles walked her down the aisle.

In an interview with Good Morning Britain, Markle said watching the ceremony from the TV of a Bed and Breakfast was difficult for him.

“Watching it was difficult for me because I wasn’t there, but at the same time, I’m watching my daughter being watched by the entire world and I couldn’t have been more proud,” he said.

“And, like I said, Charles – how could I ask for a better replacement? I was thrilled to tears that he was doing that for me. I just wish it had been my hand holding my daughter, not his.”

The older Markle said he has accepted responsibility for his behaviour before the wedding: “I can say I’m sorry for those things for the rest of my life. I’m paying for those things for the rest of my life. Like I say, I’m a footnote rather than the dad that walked his girl down the aisle. I have to live with that for the rest of my life.”

He said his daughter, who is now the Duchess of Sussex, introduced Prince Harry to him as “a nice guy from England.”

Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother, was the only relative that attended the wedding.
