The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has shited the date for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
JAMB had earlier stated that it was considering an extension, adding that at least 600,000 candidates had yet to register for the exam initially scheduled to hold between June 5 and 19.
At a press conference in Abuja on Saturday, Ishaq Oloyede, the board’s registrar, announced that the UTME registration, which was supposed to end on May 15, has been extended by two weeks.
The UTME, Oloyede said, will now run from June 19 to July 3. He said the mock exam which was to hold on May 28 will now take place on June 3.
The Jamb registrar noted that the board will consider the interest of candidates especially those having national identification number (NIN) challenges.
According to Oloyede, the board has secured the commitment of the National Identification Management Commission (NIMC) to give priority to prospective UTME/DE candidates.
TheCable Lifestyle reported how the exam body mandated candidates to provide their NIN during registration.
To register, applicants are expected to text their NIN to 55019 to get the profile codes needed to purchase UTME e-Pin.
The generation of profile codes had, however, proven difficult for many, delaying their registration for the exams.
