The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has rejected the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) A-level as an entry requirement for Direct Entry (DE) admission.
A-level, also known as advanced level qualifications, are subject-based qualifications that can lead to university.
The exam board, in its January 24 bulletin, said it gave the directive to tertiary institutions following the discovery that relevant government policies do not permit NABTEB to conduct A-level exams.
JAMB said it conveyed the rejection to vice-chancellors and tertiary institution heads in a statement signed by Mohammed Babaji Ahmed, its director of admissions.
The board said it would, henceforth, not process the admission of any candidate with a NABTEB A-level certificate.
“It has come to the notice of the board that some institutions are accepting NABTEB A/L GCE as a qualification for Direct Entry (DE) Admissions,” JAMB said.
“JAMB is aware that NABTEB is not authorised to offer GCE and is, therefore, compelled to take appropriate action.
“Any A/L GCE Certificate issued by NABTEB is, therefore, not registrable with JAMB and the Board would not process the admission of any candidate with such a result.”
The board also fixed February 12 for the commencement of the registration for the 2022 UTME and DE.
