James Brown, the controversial crossdresser, says he is “sad and depressed” amid the backlash trailing his leaked sex tape.

On Monday, a video of Brown enjoying an intimate moment with a female lover went viral on Twitter.

The footage sparked an avalanche of mixed reactions on the microblogging platform with a conversation about his sexuality taking centre stage.

Although Brown clarified in the past that his foray into crossdressing was more of a “hustle”, a number of his followers and critics are still of the opinion that he’s gay.

Some of the users had also called him out over the sex tape.

But in a Twitter post on Tuesday, the internet personality said “I feel down and tired”.

“For the first time in a long time I am sad & depressed, I feel down and tired. Is this what it fell like” he wrote.

In another post, he lamented that he couldn’t sleep last night, adding that he had a bad dream.

Brown had earlier played down the criticisms trailing the clip, saying he was surprised that some people previously doubted his sexuality.

“I said I have a girlfriend you guys don’t believe me. Am I not man enough?” he had asked his critics.

Last month, the brand influencer said being a crossdresser does not define his personality.

“I won’t say it (cross-dressing) is not my lifestyle, definitely it’s a hustle. Before, I used to say, oh, it’s not my lifestyle, so I dress like a guy at home. Now, I don’t even dress like a guy,” he had said.

“I don’t wear pants. I just let everything fly out. And I sometimes wear my hair. I’m just more girly now. The thing is, it’s a lifestyle but that doesn’t define my sexuality because I have a girlfriend. It’s a new development.”
