Speaking during the latest episode of the ‘Tea With Tay’ podcast, the rapper said his stage name initially belonged to an undisclosed friend.

The ‘Back in Uni’ cronner said he decided to “steal” the name from his friend because he liked it and the latter was not using it for anything significant.

Blaqbonez, however, said he got his friend’s consent before using the name officially.

Asked how he got the name, he said: “I stole it, it was my friend’s name. His name was Blaqbonez and he wasn’t it using it for anything. The guy just likes rap so he gave himself a rap name, he wasn’t even rapping, he wasn’t doing anything.

“So one day I just said ‘bro, you no dey use this name and I like am’ and that’s how I started bearing Blaqbonez. I was in school then.”

Blaqbonez also disclosed he started his career as a rapper in response to a challenge thrown at him by his cousin.

“I had no idea I could sing or rap earlier. I started rapping because I was challenged by my cousin. I used to criticise people, I thought nothing was difficult,” he said.

“I thought whatever you’re doing if I decide to do it I will do it better so that’s how I started rapping.”
