Sbid, a hip hop artiste, has taken a swipe at some top rappers in the Nigerian music industry.
The artiste, whose real name is Opeifa Micheal Idowu, hailed M.I Abaga but singled out Vector, YCee, Dremo, Ice Prince, Terry tha Rapman and Skales for criticism.
In a freestyle single titled ‘Bring Back Hip Hop’, Sbid says he wants to revive the genre in the country.
He said: “Talking about these rappers, they are dead to me, they may be alive but walking dead to me.”
On Dremo, Sbid said: “I used to feel (o jere), you said Fela is back but it’s not true (o jere), lazy rapper you crazy (o jere), Sbid is about the basics (o jere).”
Speaking about Vector, he rapped: “It’s Vector the Viper, he was almost a legend like the seeker… no doubt you got a shinny career but you switched up your sound and destroyed your career.”
Sbid said Ice Prince also tried to switch his sound but he is now an “upcoming artiste.”
In a chat with TheCable, the rapper said he recorded the song because of the “state of hip hop in Nigeria.”
Sbid said he hailed M.I Abaga because he the “only one” trying to keep the genre alive in the country.
“Remember MI talked about it too. He his the only one trying to keep hip hop alive in the country,” he said.
“We’ve still got real hip hop artistes that are not afraid of all the politics in the industry.”
When asked if he is worried that Vector, Ycee and others he criticised would retaliate, he said: “They should [try] if they can actually rap.”
