Hadiza Gabon, the Kannywood actress, has filed a lawsuit against a civil servant identified as Bala Musa over an alleged defamation of character.
The drama between the two began in 2022 after Musa took the actress to court over her refusal to marry him.
Both parties had appeared before a Shari’a court in Kaduna where the complainant told the court that he had been in a relationship with the actress. He also alleged that she promised to marry him.
Although the defendant did not show up during sitting, Mubarak Kabir, Gabon’s counsel, told the court that his client was not sure of the authenticity of the summon.
He also prayed to the court to give him more time to produce his client in court.
According to NAN, Gabon filed a lawsuit against Musa before a magistrates’ court at Daura road, Kaduna on Wednesday.
Mubarak Sani, Gabon’s counsel, claimed his client had suffered negative reactions and comments from the public due to the defendant’s false allegations against her.
He added that people, especially on social media, called Gabon a cheat who “refused to marry Musa after collecting his money”.
Musa, through Naira Murtala, his legal representative, however, denied the allegation.
Shamsudeen Sulaiman, the chief magistrate, asked the complainant’s counsel if they had witnesses and they answered in the affirmative.
Sulaiman later granted bail to the defendant with the condition that he should present two reliable sureties who are residents of Kaduna and must be civil servants.
He adjourned the matter to November 15 for the complainant to present the witnesses.
