‘Gangs of Lagos’, the recently released Prime Video film, is ranked in Flixpatrol’s global top three.
The movie, directed by Jade Osiberu and produced by Kemi Lala Akindoju, was released on April 7.
FlixPatrol, a streaming data aggregator site, put out an April 9 list of the top 10 movies showing on Prime globally.
The platform is known to gather all possible streaming data about movies and TV shows “to help producers better understand viewers’ taste and popularity moods towards creating better and more successful films and TV shows.”
‘Gangs of Lagos’ was put in third place, a ranking that comes within the first two days of its debut on Prime Video.
In first and second places are ‘Die Hart the Movie’ and ‘On a Wing and a Prayer’.
The fourth to tenth movies that ranked after ‘Gangs of Lagos’ are ‘Pathaan’, ‘Clarkson’s Farm’, ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, ‘Fall’, ‘Perfect Addiction’, ‘John Wick’, and ‘John Wick: Chapter Two’ respectively.
‘Gangs of Lagos’ stars Tobi Bakre, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Zlatan, Pasuma, and Chike, among others.
The movie tells the tale of a group of friends who have to navigate destiny while growing up on the streets of Lagos.
In August 2022, Prime Video announced the launch of ‘Gangs of Lagos’, its first Nigerian original.
The company said it would allow customers to subscribe to its platform in naira for the first time.
Josh McIvor, Prime Video’s director of international expansion, said its investment in Nigeria is part of the company’s plans to widen its reach in Africa and across the globe.
Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, the company’s head of Nigerian originals, said the initiative would amplify local stories to a global audience.
