Kunle Afolayan’s ‘Anikulapo‘ and C.J Obasi’s ‘Mami Wata‘ were among the top winners at the 2023 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
The 19th edition of the annual awards was held at the Balmoral Convention Centre inside the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, on Sunday.
‘Anikulapo’ won two categories; the Ousmane Sembene award for Best Film in an African Language while Pat Nebo, the late art director, secured the Best Achievement in Production Design.
Similarly, ‘Mami Wata’ won three categories; the Best Achievement in Make-Up, the Best Achievement in Cinematography, and the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVB) Award for Best Nigerian Film.
Tobi Bakre and Nse Ikpe Etim also won the Best Actor/Actress In A Leading Role.
Nancy Isime, Rahama Sadau and Richard Ato Turkson hosted this year’s edition of the award ceremony, which celebrates excellence in the African movie industry.
