Ten people lost their lives while 49 sustained injuries in 26 road accidents recorded in different parts of Kogi State during the Easter holiday, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) confirmed on Thursday.
Speaking with journalists in Lokoja, Kogi Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Godwin Omiko, said that the dead include nine male adults and a female adult.
Omiko said 120 people, comprising 98 men and 22 women, were involved in the 26 accidents, which occurred between April 16 and April 21.
He said that 71 of them were rescued without injuries, while the remaining 49 persons sustained various degrees of injuries, and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
He also said that those rescued without injuries are 55 men and 16 women, adding that no child casualty was recorded in any of the accidents.
“Relatives of the victims have been contacted, following laid-down procedures in the organisation,” he stated, adding that corpses of the deceased have been released to their families.
