Beyond brushing and flossing, your choice of food plays an important role in ensuring your overall oral health.
Consuming a bad diet constantly may lead to gum disease, tooth decay and eventual tooth loss.
Without further ado, here is a list of seven supercharged foods that will provide your teeth and gums with the needed nutrients to stay strong and healthy.
Milk
Another diary product you should consume to preserve teeth and keep your gums in good shape is milk. Milk is highly-rich in calcium which provides your teeth and jaw bones with nutrients needed to stay strong and healthy.
Nutritionists recommend a glass of milk should at least be consumed daily for strong bones and teeth.
Green Tea
Including green tea in your diet offers double protection for both your white pearls and gum. Green Tea is packed with disease-fighting antioxidants that prevent plaque from sticking to your teeth; fighting off gum disease.
It also contains fluoride that fortifies the enamel and keeps it safe from tooth decay.
Carrots
Carrots are vegetables with high fibre that requires prolonged chewing for digestion. This act stimulates saliva production which serves as a another way of cleaning the teeth and gum.
It also disrupts bacteria-filled plague from building up around your teeth while the chewing is ongoing.
Cheese
Cheese is a good source of calcium that guarantees your oral health. It contains minerals and protein that helps rebuild the enamel. It also helps to neutralize acids found in food that may be a threat to your tooth enamel– lowering the risks of tooth decay.
Garlic
As much people dread garlic because of its not so pleasant smell, it is loaded with antibacterial properties that are very important to your oral health. The main component ‘allicin’ fights tooth decay by creating a healthy balance in the ratio of good and bad bacteria in the mouth.
It is also packed with prebiotic fiber which helps ensure food digestion, and gut health.
There are over 500 different species of bacteria that naturally reside in your mouth. Some of these bacteria are beneficial to health and others are not. Garlic ensures the bad bacteria are killed while the needed bacteria are left undisturbed to keep off gum disease and tooth decay.
Water
Here is a reason you should drink more water daily. Water helps to rinse off food particles in your mouth and helps keep your saliva level high in defense against tooth decay. Saliva contains 95 per cent of water and when the saliva level is low, bacteria easily feeds of the enamel, causing tooth holes.
Hence, to avoid cavity, keep yourself hydrated. You can also replace sugary drinks with water to prevent cavity.
Oranges
These are citrus fruits containing essential nutrient needed for healthy gums. Oranges are rich in Vitamin C, which helps to strengthen blood vessels, connective tissue and prevents gum inflammation.
Oranges should however be taken in proportion because of its acidity level. To reduce the impact of its acidity level, rinse your mouth with water after taking an orange or wait at least half an hour before brushing your teeth.
