Mayorkun, the Nigerian singer and self-acclaimed ‘Mayor of Lagos’, has made a comeback with a new single titled ‘Lowkey’.
The singer, who has been on a six-month hiatus, unveiled his new song via social media.
‘Lowkey’ is a mid-tempo Afropop tune with a soulful and infectious melody.
The song features catchy and relatable lyrics that are likely to resonate with a diverse audience.
In ‘Lowkey’, Mayorkun recounts the challenges of success and betrayal.
He sings about being constantly taken advantage of by people who do not deserve him.
The singer also emphasises his weariness of being hurt, adding that he is learning to protect himself from further harm.
“Lowkey lowkey lowkey, I have been steadily taking shit from people that do not deserve me. Mo para, moya tete pase fun jalo, koma lo pami bi alo K’emi le rigo beer kan,” the lyrics read.
“If you too sweet dem go lick you finish, if you want peace dem go break you pieces, the matter pass my hand, e scatter all my plans.”
The song’s release has been met with excitement from fans, who have been eagerly awaiting new music from Mayorkun since his last single ‘For Daddy‘ in April.
The production is also top-notch, and the credit belongs to Larrylanes, the talented producer.
The track’s instrumentation is well-arranged and complements the singer’s vocals perfectly.
Mayorkun gained popularity in 2016 after he released his debut single ‘Eleko’, which was produced by Puffy Tee.
The singer has also received several accolades for his talent.
