Adele, the Grammy-winning singer, has put out ‘Easy on Me’ — her highly anticipated first song in six years.
The song is the first serving off ’30’, Adele’s upcoming album billed for November 19.
Since the British singer announced its imminent release on her social media pages earlier this month, fans around the globe have been waiting — and sometimes jokingly scheduling heartbreaks — in anticipation of her first song since 2015.
After weeks of promotion, the new song was released on Friday alongside a video of the track.
The over 5-minute music video follows the singer embarking on a road trip, blasting the tune in her car stereo while the onrushing wind spills her music sheets as she speeds off the highway.
Adele had earlier disclosed that her upcoming album would detail the complications from her divorce and “the most turbulent period of my life”.
‘Easy on Me’ is the perfect introduction to the gloom of the project with its monochrome effect, which blends well with the emotional piano ballad to create a melancholy mood.
The music sees Adele explaining her decision to walk away from her marriage in 2019, demanding that the world “go easy on me.”
While driving through the lonely highway with bellowing wind, she sings: “There ain’t no room for things to change/ When we are both so deeply stuck in our ways/ You can’t deny how hard I have tried/ I changed who I was to put you both first/ But now I give up.”
