Davido has snagged the ‘Best African Artiste’ award at the just concluded Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

The event took place on Saturday night at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.

Chris Attoh, the Ghanaian actor, and Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku, the renowned broadcaster, hosted the award ceremony.

Davido triumphed over colleagues including Temz, Rema, Asake, Burna Boy, Tyla, and JZyNO.

The singer received his plaque through an associate who delivered his acceptance speech.

Stonebwoy, the Ghanaian artiste, dominated the night.

He swept six awards including the categories Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste, Best International Collaboration, Best Songwriter of the Year, Best EP/Album of the Year, and Artiste of the Year.

King Promise, the singer behind the hit ‘Terminator’, secured the “Telecel Most Popular Song of the Year” alongside “Best Afropop Song” and “Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste” awards.

Black Sherif, the Ghanaian rapper, claimed the “Best Hiplife/HipHop Artiste of the Year” title while Sarkodie, his colleague, earned the “Best Hiphop Song” award.

Last year, Asake, the Nigerian Grammy nominee, won the “Best African Artiste” prize at the Ghana Music Awards.

Davido rose to fame with his 2012 hit ‘Dami Duro’.

With multiple awards and accolades, he has firmly established himself as one of the prominent names in the African music industry.
