The gunmen had broken into the academy in the early hours of Tuesday and killed two officers while others were also abducted during the attack.

The incident has continued to generate heated reactions, with many Nigerians expressing concerns over the audacity with which gunmen now carry out attacks in the country.

Reacting in a video via his Instagram page on Wednesday, Daddy Showkey said the government must take tougher measures to tackle insecurity in the country.

The music star also said people should stop describing the attackers as bandits, adding that they are “mercenaries coming to take over our land.”

“It is a shame and disgrace to Nigeria. Our pride, the Nigeria Defense Academy (NDA) was attacked, you people are still calling these people bandits. These people are not bandits but mercenaries,” he said.

“We should start calling them the right thing. They are mercenaries coming to take over our land.”

He added that it was unfortunate that officials of the Nigerian army, who he said often clamp down on unarmed citizens, could not prevent the NDA attack.

“It is a heavy disgrace that NDA was attacked. Soldiers and children were killed and you people still call yourselves Nigerian army yet you can beat people that wear camouflage and on the streets,” he added.
