Daddy Showkey, veteran Nigerian singer, has pleaded with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the release Afeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley.
Marley was arrested on May 10– his birthday — on allegations of “advanced fee fraud and related cybercrimes” following the release of his latest single dubbed ‘Am I a Yahoo Boy’.
The singer also made an Instagram live video where he urged Nigerians to pray for internet fraudsters (Yahoo boys) “as they are crucial to the circulation of money in the economy.”
Showkey, however, made a public plea on his social media account soliciting for the release of the singer by the anti-graft agency.
“Temper justice with mercy. This is just a young man growing up. Let’s not use his mistakes to spoil his career we all went through so many things growing up,” Daddy Showkey wrote.
“We can use him as a spoke man to young people against crime @officialefcc maybe he will learn with this”.
Showkey’s appeal is coming on the heels of Zlatan’s freedom from EFCC custody. Zlatan, a Nigerian artiste, who collaborated alongside Naira Marley for the controversial single, was released on Tuesday.
Although the anti-graft agency is yet to make any official statement to explain why Naira Marley was not released on bail; reports have it that there is overwhelming evidence against the singer.
