Marriages fail every now and then and for a plethora of reasons too. While some unions come to an end in temporary separation, others discontinue in outright divorce.
Sometimes, it is about one partner having an extramarital affair — whether physical or emotional. But such things as a lack of intimacy and clear boundaries also scuttle an otherwise blossoming union.
It could also be about repeated disputes that leave both partners growing apart as the union becomes a burden.
Many times, for celebrities, it is about a superiority complex or the lack of privacy impacting family commitment.
The entertainment scene in Nigeria was badly hit with failed marriages in 2021 and this jinx spilled into ’22.
Funke Akindele & JJC Skillz
Actress Akindele and her partner JJC Skillz decided it was in their best interests to part ways in 2022.
The pair tied the knot in London in 2016 and welcomed a set of twin boys in 2018.
But in June 2022, JJC Skillz announced his separation from Akindele, citing “irreconcilable differences”.
Akindele, who would later become the running mate of Abdul-Azeez Adediran, the Lagos PDP governorship candidate, excluded JJC’s surname from her campaign poster.
At the time, there had been a dispute in the family as Benito Bello, a son of JJC, accused him of physical abuse.
Nkechi Blessing & Opeyemi Falegan
The actress Blessing’s fallout with her politician partner Falegan dragged along in a bitter social media row.
It was in April 2022 that Nkechi Blessing revealed she had ended her 10-month relationship with Falegan.
The separation spurred a bitter social media exchange between them both, with allegations and counterclaims.
In September, Blessing put out a stunt where she handed out dildos at a public event in an apparent diss for her ex.
In one of his rants, Falegan said he left Blessing due to her poor hygiene. He also claimed she didn’t wash her undies for days.
Retorting, Blessing dismissed the accusation and argued that she hadn’t worn pants since she was 18.
Korra Obidi & Justin Dean
Obidi, the dancer, and her ex Dean were in the public eye after they announced their split in March.
Their separation came a few weeks after they welcomed their second child together.
Dean had accused Obidi of infidelity, narcissism, and accountability. The chiropractor said he was heartbroken and needed to walk away from the marriage to protect his sanity.
On her part, Obidi said trouble started when Dean began to complain about the amount of time she spends on social media.
The entertainer also alleged that Dean was demanding spousal support from her.
Oritsefemi & Nabila Fash
In October, Nabila revealed she filed for divorce from the singer over alleged infidelity and domestic violence.
She accused the singer of constant cheating, verbal assault, and emotional abuse.
Nabila also claimed that Oritsefemi has children out of wedlock with the excuse of wanting a boy child. She alleged that he has gotten physical with her twice in their relationship.
Last year, Oritsefemi denied claims that he cheated on his wife in a similar dispute.
The couple tied the knot in 2017.
Gideon Okeke & Chidera Okeke
Okeke, the actor, separated from Chidera, his wife, in October 2022.
The split came about four years after the couple walked down the aisle.
Although the cause of the separation wasn’t known, Okeke said he was upholding his “clear conscience”.
Gideon Okeke and his now estranged wife tied the knot in 2018.
The separation leaves them with two children to cater to.
