Calabar Chic, the comedienne, says her mother once saved her from committing suicide.
In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, the media personality, Calabar Chic said she faced challenges as a child.
She said she was a very angry child who hated herself and even stopped school for stabbing someone.
The comedienne said she once attempted suicide, but her mom stopped her after walking in by chance.
“I was dealing with a lot as a child. I stopped school because I fought and stabbed someone,” she said.
“I was a very angry child, angry to the point that I hated myself. I wanted to die.
“I attempted to kill myself one time, and my mum walked in.”
Calabar Chic recently revealed that she was sexually assaulted at 14 on her way home from church.
She said the incident affected her spirituality and stopped her from attending church for seventeen years.
“Growing up as a 14-year-old, I was sexually assaulted, brutalised, beaten and the guy had his way with me. I was just a teenager and I was returning from church the evening this happened,” she said.
“My relationship with God just went down and I did not attend church for seventeen years.”
Calabar Chic is known for her skits on social media, using the accent of the Calabar people of south-south Nigeria.
She has featured in comedy shows, including ‘Shakara and The Gang’ and the ‘AY Show’.
