The presidency recently announced that President Muhammadu Buhari would on Thursday, launch “Change begins with me”, a social change campaign.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has been saddled with the responsibility of spearheading the campaign and getting the message to the grassroot.

Here are 5 things to know about the campaign:

It’s a toned-down version of War Against Indiscipline

WAI, which was launched in 1983 when President Muhammadu Buhari was the military head of state, often used force and punishment to enforce discipline among the populace.

According to Lai Mohammed, the minister for information and culture, “Change begins with me” will use persuasion instead of force.

Through the media and use of slogans, the campaign aims to educate and instill into Nigerians, values that contribute to the development of the country.

It aims to boost Nigeria’s image

With the education of citizens, the campaign hopes to improve the image of Nigeria in the international community.

Ultimately, this will endear the world – businesses, investors, tourists – to Nigeria.

Private sector is involved

“Change begins with me” will be overseen by the federal government in collaboration with the private sector.

As part of the campaign, the private sector will sponsor concerts to reach out to the public.

Corruption is everywhere, change begins from the grassroots

According to Garba Abari, director general of the NOA, the problem of Nigeria is not limited to the government, elite and civil service.

The campaign aims to create awareness of the ways the common man is also contributing to the problems of the country.

According to Abari, corruption has relegated the country and the only way to save Nigeria is to change the common man.
