Everyone has a friend of the opposite sex we call our best friend forever (BFF).
What you feel for your BFF is usually platonic love. You spend a lot of time together, share secrets, run to each other for a shoulder to lean on even if you are in a relationship with someone else. You sometimes place your BFF’s interest above your partner’s.
You tell yourself that your BFF is nothing but a friend, no strings attached. BFFs are friend-zoned.
However, love is an unpredictable feeling. Because of the intimacy you share with your BFF, you might not be aware that you are beginning to, or have already fallen passionately in love with him or her.
And sometimes, even when you realise the shift in emotions, you dwell in self-denial.
Below are 10 signs to know your love for your BFF has crossed the line.
Skipping heart beats
If your heart begins to skip a beat when you run into your best friend, then your feelings may have begun to evolve into something beyond platonic.
You become conscious of your appearance
Your BFF is supposed to be your dump box. You are most free with him or her and care less if they see the speck of foam on your hair or the dried lines of sweat on your shirt.
But if you are becoming too conscious of every little detail about your appearance when they are around you, that might be a sign that you are in love with your BFF.
They occupy your thoughts
It is normal to think about your friend but if you spend a lot of time thinking about your BFF, regurgitating your time together, or imagining a connubial future together, then your love for them may have just moved to the next level.
Seeing them with the opposite sex gets you jealous
When the feelings are low-key, it is fine for your BFF to be in a relationship or hang out with other friends of the opposite sex.
If seeing them with their lover or friends of the opposite sex gets you jittery, that’s another sign you are flying over the moon in love for your BFF.
More frequent conversation
When you spend more time talking with them, are always checking your phone to see if their messages have dropped, and keeping tabs on their last active time online, you are definitely catching feelings.
Go out of your way to please them
You could easily tell your BFF a no for a favour but when extra emotions creep in, you go the extra mile and take drastic measures just to please them.
You look for them first in a crowd
When there is a gathering or an occasion, you can’t seem to keep your head down until you spot him or her.
Hugs mean more
When the hugs are getting tighter, longer and sexual, or you start to feel a tingling sensation when they brush against you, that may be a sign you love your BFF.
You remember every little detail
Nothing about him or her pass you by anymore. You remember the exact minute of the hour he picked you up three months ago, or you remember the colour of the nail paint she wore for your friend’s birthday party.
You deny you love him/her
When other friends can tell that you seem to be in love with him/her, you ardently deny it, but you become sad afterwards.

Everyone DOES NOT have a BFF and every sensible person in a committed relationship will stay far from the idea. It is against the scheme of things for straight people of the opposite sex to be “friends”. Where it exists, check well, they may have been, there is, or there will be something sexual, even if only an attempt at it. Be wise.
