The 41-year-old actress told BBC that it was a tough time for her.

Despite the separation, the Hollywood star has said that they will always be a family.

“It was a very difficult time and we are a family, we will always be a family and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it.

“Many people find themselves in this situation. My whole family have all been through a difficult time. My focus is my children, our children. My focus is finding this way through. We are and forever will be a family and that is how I am coping. I’m coping with finding a way through to make us stronger and closer.”

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016, citing irreconcilable differences.

The couple had been together since 2004 but only got married in 2014.

Brad Pitt, also a Hollywood star, had asked the public to give them space to deal with the situation.

“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time,” he had said.

Jolie has requested for full custody of the children, which will grant Pitt only visitation privileges.

She also requested for joint legal custody, not physical custody.
