Austin Faani, the filmmaker and husband of Chacha Eke, has slammed the organisers of Big Brother Titans (BBTitans) for proceeding with the show despite next month’s elections.

The election is to hold on February 25 while the reality show, which premiered on January 15, will run for 77 days and end on April 2, 2023.

Some Nigerians have condemned the timing of the reality show, saying it will be a “distraction to the youth during the elections.”

Joining the fray in an Instagram post on Thursday, Faani called out Ebuka Uchendu, the show host, while wondering why the organisers couldn’t delay the reality programme for at least a month.

“Someday, not soon maybe, Ebuka and BBN will explain to Nigerians why they couldn’t wait for just a month as to not distract the Nigerian masses,” he wrote.

“Especially the southern Nigeria that engages more in their awesome show from the coming election.

“Just someday, there will be this dialogue, and I hope their reasons make sense and adds positive impact to what everyone in Nigeria is after at the moment.”

Last week, Yunusa Tanko, the presidential spokesperson for Labour Party (LP), also condemned the timing of the show.

“Big Titan or whatever they may call it will distract the youths from taking what belongs to them now,” he had said.

“Why the ‘Titans’ now that we are facing a major election that will determine the future of the Nigerian youths?.”
