Not less than 50 influential fashion houses from the US, UK, Germany, Morocco and South Africa are expected to showcase at the ARISE Fashion Week (AFW) 2018.
Popular designers expected to participate include Laquan Smith, Ozwald Boateng, Tinie Tempah, Aurora James, Gavin Rajah, Rich Mnisi, KLuK CDGT, Thebe Magugu and Maxhosa by Laduma from South Africa.
Others who have signed up for the Easter fashion extravaganza include designers from Canada, Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Tanzania.
Ruth Osime, executive editor of THISDAY Style and co-creative director, AFW, broke down the three-day event as follows:
Day 1
Kicking off in the morning of Saturday, March 31 with the first Supermodel Masterclass ever to be held in the country, an ARISE Fashion Mentoring and Bootcamp, United Nations Special event, representatives of the federal government meeting with key designers, and The Showcase that will be anchored by Banke Kuku.
The catwalk will be graced by Nigerian and international models wearing wearing clothes made by Funke Adepoju, Clan, Vonne Couture, Laurenceairline (Ivory Coast), About That Curvy Life Collective, Andrea Iyamah, Style Temple, Okunoren Twins, Thebe Magugu (South Africa), Aurora James (Canada), Tinie Tempah (UK), Mustafa Hassanali (Tanzania), Orapeleng Modutle (Sough Africa), Ituen Basi, KLûK CGDT (South Africa) and Lanre Da Silva Ajayi.
Day 2
On Sunday, April 1, another set of designers comprising Grey, Abaya Lagos, Taryor Gabriel, Ilare, House of Divas, Lagos, Ziva, Lagos, Sarah Duah (Germany), Yutee Rone, Koki Kamala (Botswana), Amine Bendriouich (Morocco), Tzar, Kimono Kollection, Mai Atafo, Tsemaye Binitie, Gavin Rajah (South Africa), Jewel by Lisa and Tiffany Amber.
Day 3
The finale holding on Monday, April 2, will see models on the runway adorning designs by Moofa, Dzyn, House of Nwocha, Maxivive, Sunny Rose, Tokyo James, Maxhosa by Laduma (South Africa), Maki Oh, Gozel Green, Rich Mnisi (South Africa), Bridget Awosika, Ere Dappa, Odion Mimonet, Laquan Smith (USA), Lakhanyo Midingi (South Africa), Deola Sagoe and Ozwald Boateng (UK).
According to Osime, the best designers will be selected to showcase at the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) in September.
She said: “We are excited to bring world-class fashion back to Lagos in the real sense of it. The bar will definitely be raised once more with strong collaborations, innovation, and creativity.”
