Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the state’s commissioner for education, announced the scholarship in a statement in Akwa on Tuesday.

Chuma-Udeh said Umeh, a native of Anambra, scored 360 during this year’s UTME.

The commissioner said Umeh has been granted the opportunity to study any course of her choice at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.

Chuma-Udeh said the administration of Chukwuma Soludo, Anambra state governor, would continue to pay “great attention” to education in the state.

“Nkechinyere Umeh has been declared the best by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), having scored a cumulative mark of 360 in the 2023 UTME,” she said.

“This is a testament that efforts by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration to reposition the education sector is yielding the desired dividend.

“This scholarship will encourage and motivate her to do more in the future and also serve as an example to other students of the state.”

This year’s UTME started on April 25 and ended on May 3.

In the same month, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) released the results of the examination.

A total of 1,595,779 candidates had registered to take the examination in 708 CBT centres across 105 examination towns in the country.
