A year after winning the best supporting actor category in the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), Sambasa Nzeribe has been named best actor of 2017.
The actor, who also featured in The Weddding Party, won the award for his role in Slow Country.
Nzeribe trumped veterans, Olu Jacobs, Ramsey Nouah, and Richard Mofe-Damijo, to win the highly contested category.
The aforementioned trio were the front-runners in the days leading to the awards ceremony.
’76, 93 Days and Oloibiri are three of the highest nominated movies.
Historical drama, ’76, won the highest number of categories, with five wins.
As he did last year, Sambasa gave a special thanks to the Catholic women organisation of St Mary’s for believing in him and sponsoring him to film school.
The award ceremony which was broadcast live on DStv featured performances by Timi Dakolo, Waje, Lira, among others.
The event was hosted by IK Osakioduwa and South African media personality, Minnie Dlamini.
