The 2017 of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), popularly known as Africa’s Oscars, will air Saturday evening.
’76, 93 Days and Oloibiri are three of the highest nominated movies.
Both 93 Days and ‘76 are vying for the best movie award while veterans, Olu Jacobs, Ramsey Nouah, and Richard Mofe-Damijo are in the contest for the best actor award.
Nominations for the award was released in December 2016, with 76 topping the list with 14 nods.
The historical drama was followed closely by 93 Days, a movie about the Ebola outbreak in Nigeria, and Oloibiri.
They each had 13 nominations while A trip to Jamaica had five nominations.
’76, produced by Izu Ojukwu, is a story about of a young pregnant woman, and her husband, a soldier accused of being involved in the 1976 military coup and assassination of Murtala Mohammed.
Niyi Akinmolayan’s film about sexual assault, The Arbitration, and The CEO by Kunle Afolayan each had two nominations.
The award ceremony, which will be broadcast live on DStv, will feature performances by Timi Dakolo, Waje, Lira, among others.
The event will be hosted by IK Osakioduwa and South African media personality, Minnie Dlamini.
The AMVCA which began in 2013 is now in its fifth edition.
