Africa Film Academy (AFA), the organisers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), has announced the nomination list for its 2023 edition.

The nomination list was released on Thursday at a press briefing held at The Saffron Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.

Steve Ayorinde, the president of the jury, unveiled the finalists for the 26-category awards comprising the ‘Best Shirt Film’, ‘Best Animation’, and ‘Best Documentary’.

‘Anikulapo’, a film by Kunle Afolayan, Jade Osiberu’s ‘Gang of Lagos’, and ‘Mami Wata’ by Oge Abasi were among the projects that made most of the entries.

Earlier in September, the organisers re-appointed Keith Shiri as the jury head for this year’s award.

Shiri was selected to work with other renowned filmmakers and critics from different parts of the world to preside over the jury.

Last year, Kingsley James, chief operating officer (CEO) of AMAA, said Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos state governor, would return as the host for the 19th edition of the AMAAs.

He added that other activities — including human capacity building by the AFA, jury’s session, nomination unveil, and one week-long festivities that will herald the 2023 edition — will be unchanged.

The award ceremony will take place on October 29 at the Balmoral Hall, Sheraton, Ikeja, Lagos.
