Godswill Akpabio, the senate president, has denied rumours that he is having extra-marital affairs.
On Sunday, a blog had listed names of some female celebrities, claiming they are Akpabio’s “side chicks”.
Speaking on the matter on the floor of the red chamber on Tuesday, Akpabio said “I don’t merit” the allegations.
The 61-year-old senate president said Ekaette Akpabio is his “only wife and I am satisfied with her”.
Akpabio also described his wife as a “beautiful and loving woman”.
“Social media handlers should practice with decorum. We won’t out of anger regulate social media,” he said.
“They went into private abuses, I don’t want to say what they did to me because I don’t merit it. In my tradition we marry only one wife. They listed so many wives on social media.
”At the end, it will look as if the Senate president has so many wives, but I am reporting to my colleagues that I have only one and I am satisfied with that one.”
Akpabio also apologised to Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi central, over some remarks he made.
Last week, Akpoti-Uduaghan had spoken without being recognised by Akpabio. The senate president told her not to speak like she was in a “night club”.
Akpabio said after the incident, his “phone crashed” and his wife was bombarded with calls, most of them *insults”.
“My wife called me that people got angry and they published her number. She receives over 2,000 to 3,000 phone calls a day,” he said.
Earlier, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, the actress, denied having an affair with Akpabio.
The movie star described the allegations as a “very wicked lie”, adding that she has never met the senate president.
