Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes, the late South African rapper, will be buried on February 18.

AKA, who was one of South Africa’s leading rappers, was on Friday shot dead outside a restaurant in the coastal city of Durban.

The rapper and his friend were walking to their car when they were approached by two armed men who shot them at close range. The assailants then fled the scene on foot.

The motive of the killing is being investigated.

The family of AKA in a statement shared details of his memorial and funeral via his Instagram page on Tuesday.

“Kiernan will be laid to rest in a private provincial funeral on Saturday, 18 February 2023,” the statement reads.

“We as the Forbes family would like to acknowledge the outpouring of love we have received over the past few days. Kiernan wasn’t just loved by us as a family but by the nation, as we’ve seen from loved ones, friends, industry colleague, media tributes and the megacy.

“It is our wish to celebrate the life of Kiernan with those he touched and impacted through his gift of music. His memorial will therefore be open to the public as well as streamed online.”

The rapper’s memorial, scheduled to hold at the Sandton Convention Center on February 17, will also be streamed live on ‘AKAworldwide’.
