The Ondo state police command has arrested Olubodun Sanni, a final-year student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), over the alleged murder of Ifeoluwa Adekunle.
On February 3, Adekunle, a 300-level student of the Department of Economics, was found dead in her home located outside the school campus.
It was gathered that she was attacked and stabbed to death while she was alone in her room.
The incident was, however, reported to the state police.
On Tuesday, Abayomi Oladipo, Ondo commissioner of police, said Adekunle was allegedly killed by Sanni, her neighbour.
Oladipo said Sanni “fatally stabbed the student in the chest” after gaining access to her room to “steal her iPhone”.
He said the suspect confessed to “stabbing her in the chest with a knife and stole her iPhone XR”.
“In the course of the investigation, the police discovered that the deceased phone was missing,” he said.
“The police through the use of modern technology traced the phone to one Olubodun Sanni ’M’ aged 21 years old, a final year student at the same school who is also a neighbour of the deceased in the hostel.
“The recovered phone led to further questioning of the suspect who gave details of what happened in his confessional statement; how he entered the deceased room, stabbed her in the chest with a knife and stole her iPhone XR.”
The CP said Sanni would be charged in court after further investigation by the police.
