AY Makun, the Nigerian comedian, has denounced what he calls “deliberately manipulative” social media reports claiming he regrets his marital separation and is seeking a reconciliation with his estranged wife Mabel.

The former lovers, who married in 2008 and announced their separation in April 2024, have been the subject of intense media speculation.

Although AY had previously acknowledged that both parties shared some fault, the specific reasons for the split remain private.

In a statement via Instagram, the comedian and filmmaker refuted the recent reconciliation narratives, labeling them as “false, misleading and deliberately manipulative”.

AY emphasised that the stories are designed solely to generate web traffic and social media engagement.

“My attention has been drawn to a series of false, incessant, and insensitive social media posts suggesting that I am in a state of regret and seeking reconciliation in my past relationship,” the statement reads.

“These publications are deliberately manipulative, calculated to mislead the public, and designed solely for traffic and engagement.

“For clarity, I have never authorized or made any such statements.

“If I wish to communicate my personal position on any matter, I have the platform, the reach, and the credibility to do so directly-not through faceless blogs and rumor-driven platforms.

AY announced that he will be taking legal action against individuals and media platforms that continue to publish or spread the “defamatory content”.

“This serves as a final warning: all such false narratives should be disregarded by the public.

“Moving forward, the appropriate legal measures will be instituted against individuals, blogs, or platforms that continue to publish, promote, or circulate these defamatory stories. Enough of the lies,” he added.
