Dickson Gift Kate of Aroma Afrik has won the fifth edition of the Street Foodz Naija, a docu-reality cooking series celebrating Nigerian street food.
This year’s edition premiered in October 2024 with 18 contestants vying for the top prize of N10 million and a culinary sponsorship from the Hospitality Business School (HBS).
The contestants were later shortlisted to five for the final showdown, which was held at the Gbagada Industrial Scheme in Lagos.
Kate won this year’s edition after defeating Clara ‘Cla’J’ Ndubusi, Ahaneku Murphy Tochukwu (Sylvers), Oluwatosin Osinuga (Deversatili) and Adedoyin Adefuye (Striitz).
The panel of judges consisted of Kunle Remi, the actor, Chef Tee, and Opeyemi Famakin, the food critic. The host was influencer Enioluwa Adeoluwa.
Speaking at the event, Mobolaji Ogunlende, Lagos commissioner for youth and social development, commended the contestants while emphasising the importance of the platform in showcasing the talents of young Nigerians.
“It has been a long journey. I thank FoodBay TV because it is the reason we have been able to come this far. It is the reason the Lagos state government partnered with them to give this set of youth an opportunity and platform to showcase their talents,” he said.
“Next year, it will be bigger and better and the ultimate objective is to continue to give our youths a platform and opportunity to excel.”
On his part, Oluwafemi Ogundoro, the creator of Street Foodz Naija, pledged to continue supporting the contestants in growing their businesses.
“Street Foodz is more than that meal that you just take for functionality sake,” he said.
“Experientially, we are going to be doing a lot more in engaging these people and ensuring that they move their businesses to the next level and connecting them to sponsors that can transform their businesses.”
